I am the future

As the summer holidays draw to a close and my children are preparing to go back to school, it has made me reflect on their up and coming start of school.

I started thinking about my youngest, William, who is starting his education journey this year and I wanted to mark it.  So, using the only way I know how, I wanted to capture it in a photograph

I found a lovely digital backdrop and got some pictures of him in his new uniform.  He happily had them done at my studio and we printed them out. I decided to see if other parents would like to mark this special occasion too, these then became very popular.

My daughter Alice, who is 8 and will be in her last year at first school. She has been coming with me into the studio every Monday, during the holidays and quietly getting on with her ‘work’ (usually setting up dollies and taking pictures, like mummy does) After looking at the school photos I’ve done, me and Alice both wanted to do something for her

Alice was diagnosed with Dyslexia last year, she’s now starting to see she learn’s differently from her peers and instead of it being something that holds her back, we both wanted to celebrate how awesome she is! She is so cleaver and creative and she wanted to embrace and celebrate how her brain works, so we came up with this concept.

I loved sitting down with her and going through her thoughts of the stuff she wanted to express.

This then led to going on the internet and looking at lots of amazing people that have dyslexia too and who have helped shape the world we live in today.  We looked at Richard Branson, Jamie Oliver and Steve Jobs – huge boots to fill. She doesn’t have to change the world, I just want her to find her happy in whatever she does!

This picture of her will be proudly put up next to Williams, as they go hand-in-hand to school together on Wednesday.

I will be running the last of the ‘school mini’ sessions this Saturday. I only have one session available, but I’m happy to work a little later if anyone else would like one done of their child.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.

Well done Alice!! I am also dyslexic, I struggled at school but at 25 was accepted by the university of west London and trained to be a play specialist, I work with children who are struggling with health conditions and I get rewarded for all that hard work every day! Never give up and always do what you enjoy!! Good luck for this year at school, I’m sure you’ll smash it!! 💗
