During their first year of life, your baby will grow and change so much… and so fast!
From their first steps, to exploring the world around them and their emerging personality, those months are such a whirlwind of emotions and “firsts”.
This is why your baby’s first birthday is such an exciting milestone, and also why so many parents choose to celebrate it with a Cake Smash & Splash!
But what does a cake smash session actually look and feel like?
FIRST BIRTHDAY PHOTOSHOOT: BEFORE YOUR CAKE SMASH
A Cake Smash is such a fabulous session of fun, frosting and… photographs!
As soon as you book your session, we’ll start talking about colours and themes, to ensure that everything works well together and looks exactly like you want – from the cake to your little one’s outfit.
On the day of the session, I’ll have our setup ready for your little one, including our beautiful luxurious handmade outfits with matching buntings, balloons, pompoms, wooden cake stand, spoon and other accessories!
To avoid any risk with allergies and intolerances, I will ask you to provide the cake, but of course we’ll make sure to discuss colours and other details.
THE SESSION
Cake smashes normally last around 1.5 hours, and believe me: they are so much fun that time will really fly!
We’ll start off your cake smash with a few simple portraits against your setup, to show your little one’s birthday finery in all its glory!
This will also help us get the baby comfortable and ready for some… cake fun!
This is always a fun part – when the cake arrives, some babies dive straight in, while some take some encouragement to start tasting and playing. And that’s totally fine, they can make as much or as little mess as they want to while we capture some more portraits!
And if you are worried about sugar or simply want to explore some alternatives, jelly and fruit can also be used to create some beautiful images… and an amazing mess!
Now after the cake, it’s time for a quick clear up and for some… BUBBLES!
Yes, because all our cake smashes also include a “splash”.
These images are taken using a special baby sized white tin bath – which makes for some fantastic images and lots of splashy fun!
This is a part of the session that all babies absolutely LOVE… the warm water, the giggles, a few bubbles… just ideal for capturing some gorgeous big smiles, while also relaxing!
We’ll also make sure there is a towel ready for you, so as soon as we are done baby can be snuggled up.

AFTER YOUR SESSION
As for my newborn sessions, after your Cake Smash I will edit your images and create your final gallery, ready for your viewing and ordering appointment (approximately 2 weeks after your session).
Here, we will reveal your photos and help you decide which products and package suit you best, in addition to your complimentary print. Digitals, Prints and Wall Art are all available to purchase.
