‘Stay at home’
VE Street Party
With lots of ‘Stay at Home Street Parties’ planned to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War taking place on Friday 8th May 2020. I thought it may be helpful to share some of our preparation ideas to help keep the children busy and also start to build the excitement.
So, in our house we are doing on activity per day to get ready for the street party. Feel free to take part and we would love to see your finished products!
The plans are …
At 11am there will be a 2 minute silence.
From 2pm, take a picnic to the front of your house.
3pm, Churchill speech will be shown on BBC.
4pm Tea & Scones – a firm favourite in our house!
6pm Dinner (if you have any room after your yummy picnic and afternoon scones) and raise a glass to your neighbours
In the evening, following the Queen’s address at 9pm, the BBC will be leading a national rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’, so please, turn up your volume and join in from your doorsteps!

Maybe dress for the occasion, 40’s style or red, white and blue and decorate your house & garden to match! Ensuring we keep 2 meters apart, we can still be together at this special time.
I have included a printable PDF of activities that include some flags to colour in, paper bunting, colouring in sheet, make your own glider and a word search. I’ll pop the link down the bottom.
Tomorrow we will be making flags! Good old-fashioned union jack flags, very easy to do, and part of the printable activities. We will then stick it to a garden stake ready for waving!
Next, we will make lots of triangles and paint them red and blue and leave the white ones white! We’ll then attach them to some wool to decorate the front of the house.
Following this, we plan to make some cup cakes and decorate them in yes you got it, red, white and blue icing and then leave these on a table for people to come and help themselves to one (ensuring we keep 2m apart at all times).
All ready in time for Friday, have fun and enjoy this special day in these very odd times x
