When to book a Newborn Session

I specialised in newborn photography nearly 4 years ago and I absolutely love my job,  I get to capture those precious first images of your baby using my specialist props, backgrounds, headbands and hats.

Lately, I have been getting lots of enquires about newborn photography session after baby has arrived.  I don’t like to disappoint, however I only take on a certain number of newborn sessions each month.  Most of these slots are booked well in advance, and so trying to squeeze people in around existing bookings isn’t always possible.

This is due to the fact I only shoot one newborn a day, to allow time for baby and to get the best out of the session.  Also, I like the parents to enjoy the experience and not feel pressured or rushed.

On my last session I decided to ask mum why she’d left it so late.  She explained that she simply didn’t know she could book in before baby had arrived.

This made me think, I guess most people wouldn’t know how it works either.

Ideally you would book in after your 20 week scan.  I then pencil you in for your due date, I never set a firm date, I then know we have X amount of babies due that month, and allow days in the diary to be free for when baby arrives – weather baby is early or late, I adapt to fit you, so please don’t worry about the exact dates when booking. This works really well and we always get a date that suits us all.

I hate turning sessions away, but if you’ve not booked in advance there is no guarantee I would be able to fit in a newborn session once baby is here.  Deposit is just £25, which secures you in the diary with your newborn session, so please do get in touch with me and I’ll get you booked in.

Family photographer Nicole Whyte from J’adore Photography in Falkirk also thinks its important to book in for your newborn session “its so great to secure your newborn photographer nice and early. The prams and outfits will come and go but your newborn images will last a lifetime. Booking your newborn photographer nice and early will ensure you get the photographer you love.”
