What is a Mini Session anyway??

So, with Christmas fast approaching, there are a lot of photographers offering ‘Christmas mini sessions’ but what are they?

In a Nutshell

A mini session is a very short photo session. A normal photo session can include hour of shooting and a large number of images to choose from. Minis are all about short times (15-30 min.) a small number of edited photos for the clients to choose, and a lower price.

I would normally shoot just 1 or 2 sessions a day, whereas a ‘mini session’ day would be around 6 sittings.

They are very popular with clients, usually families. The prices are more affordable, and can be a fast way to get professional photos for Christmas cards or presents or just a few great photos to share with friends.

Themes

Mini sessions usually have a theme, Valentine ’s Day, Easter, Halloween, back to school and of course Christmas!

The session are usually set up in the studio with the themed sets ready for the family to arrive.  There will be a 1 or 2 set ups and a number of images are taken in certain poses.

My Christmas Mini Sessions

This year as it’s my first in the studio I will be doing just 3 days of mini sessions. One set up is on a beautiful vintage wooden sledge on a snowy background with fake snow and even a snowball or two to throw.  My second scene with be a darker wooden effect with cookies and milk waiting for Father Christmas.

These sessions will be 20 minutes shooting, then you will get to see all your images straight after your session with your ordering appointment, making it perfect for busy families to have their session and order all within an hour.  You can then order an extra images for Christmas presents or Christmas cards.

I will be launching my mini sessions next week, keep an eye out on my FB page!

Fellow Newborn Photographer Mya Lau at Rayah Sunshine Photography in Huddersfield is launching her sessions next week too. This makes me feel better and I haven’t left it too late, I’ve noticed some companies have been advertising since August!!
