Hello mum-to-be! Welcome and… congratulations!
If you are here, chances are you are considering a maternity photoshoot and you have probably heard a lot about these sessions but as a mum myself, I know pregnancy some days does NOT feel like a fairy tale.
In fact, many women experience a reduction in their body confidence as their pregnancy progresses. Your ever-expanding tummy may seem like the perfect excuse to avoid taking any photos!
So why should you even consider a maternity photoshoot? Is it worth it?
And do you really have to look like a model, to be photographed?
JUST A MOMENT IN TIME?
Photographs are a beautiful way to capture a moment in time.
But pregnancy is more than that, it’s a personal journey that looks different for every woman: think about it, we all get to this glorious moment in different ways, at a different age and in different circumstances.
And that’s exactly what a maternity photoshoot is: a celebration of your journey to motherhood – whatever that looks like – and an intimate, intense, look at who you are as a woman.
MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT: THE “PHOTOSHOP MATTER“

Looking at some pregnancy and bump photos, you might be thinking “she looks like a model! I am nothing like that so what’s the point?”
The truth is, part of the craft as a maternity photographer is to immediately recognise the right angles, light and poses that will help capture the dramatics of your body in a natural, beautiful, and creative way.
This is why, from the moment my clients enquire about a session, I make sure we have time not only to discuss styling and colours but also to get to know one another: it’s my way to ensure when you come to my studio, Marie Myers Photography, you feel at home.
And that your photoshoot feels nothing like a modelling session.
Having gone through pregnancy myself I know how essential it is to create a calm, positive space for us to create your photographs.
WILL I REGRET IT?
From the magical moment you are told you are going to become a mother; you can’t wait to hold your tiny little newborn and you literally wish the next 36(ish) weeks away.
But as weeks go by, some days you’ll probably find yourself thinking “no way I am going to miss this bump!” as you try every known remedy for aching back and heartburn (and should I mention the sleepless nights?).
And then suddenly, as you watch your little one taking their first step or discover what “real food” tastes like, you’ll find yourself… missing that bump!
That’s exactly what a maternity photoshoot is: a celebration of your journey to motherhood – whatever that looks like – and an intimate, intense, look at who you are as a woman.
Yes, pregnancy can be hard (especially for some of us), but there is simply nothing like being completely connected with that tiny human being inside you.
When that happens, and it will, imagine knowing that the only document of that amazing time in your life are a few less-than-flattering images that you would not want to ever share with anyone.
Surely such an unbelievable life even deserves more?
